Unless you’ve been hiding, you, like me, have probably seen/heard your fill of the wretched excesses of the Senate Judicial Committee hearings into the possible confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the SCOTUS. But until my wife opened this link, I had heard non of this. Talk about your Deep State stealth maneuvers!

Edited to correct typo:
I once read two books by Guy R. Odom: America’s Man on Horseback, A Fable? (1998) and Mothers, Leadership, and Success (1990). I had heard Mr. Odom being interviewed on a broadcast of the Michael Savage show, and had gone to one of the public appearances Savage had arranged to publicize himself, and featuring several authors, one of whom was Odom, who signed the copies of his books I bought.
The later book, is in the form of his advice to a future leader, somewhat after the manner of Niccolo Machiavelli, writing The Prince, advising a ruler how to govern, in order to retain control. Interestingly, by virtue of how he expected American culture and politics to develop, he expected the unconventional future American ruler (to whom he addresses his advice) to “arise” sometime between 2013, and 2029. (Trump? Unconventional, but maybe not. The demeanor of the guy he described would be a lot more like Allen West.)
His earlier book was based on a long-term study he had begun much earlier, as the CEO of the (then) largest home building company in the nation. He said that the needs of his firm for managerial talent, had made him search for the factors that produce people of dominant character. He was at pains to explain that he did not mean “domineering” people, but rather, those with a strong, developed refusal to lower their (or their company’s) standards. What he discovered, through much research* and personal experience, was that the greatest influence on a person’s character, was the character of the person that had “raised” him/her during the formative, early years. If that person (usually, the mother, though he cited instances when the father, grandparents, aunts. uncles had been the guiding influence) had been one who maintained high standards for completing tasks, diligent study, honest behavior, the child was most likely to grow up with those standards personally ingrained. Those raised by a non-dominant person were most likely to grow up non-dominant themselves, hence, even if employable, not particularly suitable in executive capacity.
Mothers Leadership, and Success chronicled the developmental changes in overall national character for America, from the highly literate, moral, religious, educated, and ambitious Citizens who took on the greatest military power in the world, broke free, and started the Nation, to the degraded average character evident when he published (1990), and predicted the continuing degradation to dependency evident today. He put forth the idea that, since the duration of virtually all great nations (in which they rise to independence, achieve prominence, and ultimately fall back to parity with other nations) is, in almost all cases, about 250 years, that that time period is ten generations, over which, the predominant character of the population undergoes analogous changes. In short, by his reckoning, the American Republic is gone, perhaps to be replaced by an American Empire, a la Rome, but gone, nonetheless. I (sadly) think he was right.
*Odom was (is?) a serious dude. Whee I met him (~1998) he was as old as I am now,. He told me that (since he was independently wealthy, and retired) he had indulged his passion for knowledge by reading no fewer than three serious books per week, on a broad range of topics, since his retirement (at that time, more than a decade prior.)

On the road to Carácas …..
Since we are embroiled in an unending psywar, I went searching for knowledgeable articles about psyops, i.e., the basic structure, what comes first, etc., the better to recognize not only THAT one is being run, but to identify it sooner, rather than later, better understand the objectives, as well as the strategy and tactics, in the hope of avoiding as many snares and pitfalls as possible. I ran across this fascinating piece … from the year after I graduated high school.
Does any of it surprise me? Not exactly, though it is revelatory to realize (a) how much was known, (b) for how long, (c) how little to counter was done by a government ostensibly in opposition, (d) how interrelated and cooperative the “capitalist” west has become with their “communist “opposition, and vice-versa, up to, including, (and perhaps because of) their monetary/banking relationships.

Yes! Thanks Tolik! It’s always encouraging when someone “gets it.” Saving the Republic won’t be easy, even if it is possible. But every scrap of good sense helps.

Perhaps you can advise me, GS. My maternal Grandpa (born 1874) told me that I shouldn’t call my self “old” until I was at least 80. And since I expect to live to 160, it seemed only (Hobbit) logical, that the midpoint would properly divide youth from old age. But lately, folks tell me that 100 is the new 80, so I’m perplexed. Should I just put off Old Age a few more decades, or increase my life expectancy by four?

De mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum est.
The stories surrounding John McCain, his Navy career, capture, subsequent treatment, and behavior in captivity, were so conflicting, that I wanted as little to do with him as possible, since I could not verify any of them. I was often disappointed in his politics.

I’ve told this story before on other forums, so at least two of you will be bored more than others, but I’ll just lay it off to incipient senility (In a few years, I’ll be an old man.) Back in the early ’70s, three of my kids were in the early grades in (‘shamed to admit it … the Public Fool System) and the youngest had yet to start. but the news was full of “The New Math,” and all the grief students were having with learning it, and and teachers with teaching it.
To minimize that grief in my family, I diverted my night school studies from engineering math to a semester course in New Math for Teachers. I really needn’t have bothered — it was just The Old Math, explained confusingly in set theory notation, a BFD, if there ever was one. But I did learn … a lot … about the general level of intelligence and comprehension of PFS teachers.
I was the only “outsider” in the class. About half the class was already employed as teachers. The other half was prospective teachers, hacking out their prereqs. At least a third of the class couldn’t fully comprehend a square root. Another third muddled through, and the last third actually understood the subject matter — all in all, not a confidence builder. Other than the opportunity to peer into the PFS, it was a total waste of a semester, since my kids never had to learn The New Math. At least I finally understood why so many teachers hardly ever wanted to answer student requests for more info — they didn’t know any more.
Aside from often lackluster presentation, PFS curricula, nationwide, have been deliberately impoverished. An ambitious and interested student could master the meager ration of academic learning that these days, passes for a high school education, in at least three fewer years, if he/she weren’t compelled to slow down and drag it out, for all the future baristas.(and teachers.)

Of course it’s easier to sell BS to kids, than to anyone with a little experience of the world. But it’s not as if most teachers in the PFS haven’t been trying, for years, to peddle all the Socialism they could sneak into everything from history, to math and science. The only change would be open, acknowledged Socialism as the official curriculum, with grades and graduation withheld for opposition, eventually followed by openly acknowledged political tests for government employment. Who, besides Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, thinks that openly flaunting their program will work better than sneaking and pretending?

That scaly thing swimming through the paddy/swamp? Gator? — nope! Croc? — naah! That’s a Dragon. Don’t worry, though .. he has lots of “American” friends.

Considering who designed it, and when, probably no direct relationship to the commies in the current State government, but they probably like it, anyway.

Sorry to “pile on,” but just ran across these audio clips which offer at least some well considered thoughts on the nature of what intangible, yet wicked, thing may be coming:
Part 1 (10:15) —the rest is commercial
Part 2 (8:03)
(Hat tip for part 2: SurvivalBlog)
Seems too close a possibility to just rule out. How say you?

This isn’t the days of Kennedy’s nationwide physical fitness campaign, or the days of the American Freedom Train touring the country (look that one up – I’ll bet very few even here have any idea what that even was, or what it was about).
While I was in the third grade, in San Bernardino, we learned about it, off and on for a week or so, then one day, went a short distance through town by bus, to see, and walk through, the Freedom Train(!) I remember seeing (under glass) copies of the Constitution, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, and what was purported to be the “Golden Spike,” driven ceremoniously to celebrate the joining of rail lines from East and West, at Promontory Summit, Utah, together with the silver railroad hammer allegedly used to drive it. We also learned the first stanza of a jazzy tune (written, as it turns out, by Irving Berlin, sung by Bing Crosby and played — often — on network radio stations.) :p
Other than the experience of walking slowly through those display cars, my memory of that brief tour is somewhat vague. I believe it was Spring, 1948, since we were past the midpoint of that school year. I do recall that a lot of the classroom “lesson” concerned the recently created United Nations organization, and the “happy” prospects that through US membership, “we” (the USA) would soon be bringing the wonders of “Freedom” to the rest of the benighted world. I realize now (as I mostly missed, as a seven-year old) it was just one of many school indoctrination campaigns to promote Globalism, and wars that politicians had no intention to win.

I’ve had similar gut feelings and worries. Education and reason are declining among the general population. “Community Organizing” grows. The Left becomes more emotional, violent, and destructive over their political differences with us, and most governments give such behavior at least a pass if not proudly overt public support. Islamists are taking over Europistan. China and Russia, are making advances in weapons systems. US forces are thinly spread, fighting almost unreported wars, in places where nobody has publicly identified any legitimate US interest.
Marxism, in the form of Cloward/Piven overloading of the various Welfare schemes, grows in popularity at a time when many employers are demanding utter and permanent obliteration of the national border to provide not just cheap labor, but labor AT ALL(!) since many Americans would proudly starve, beg, steal, and riot, before they would EVER accept working AT ALL(!)
But the banksters who finance all the variants of would-be world takeover are several moves ahead of us ordinaries. They have already picked their next frontmen/sword-wielders, leaving us to wonder who they’ve chosen, how best to oppose them, and how to survive the waste to which their next big power grab will lay the world. Under all variants of fractional reserve central banking, we subsidize a perpetual enemy, who will never stop trying to complete our enslavement, until the Celestial Whistle blows.
Once, I naively believed and expected that superior ideas would win out in the realm of Politics. When one side of the contest has unlimited access to microphones and press, and the other has virtually none, we are no longer in the realm of Politics, except, perhaps, as von Clausewitz dryly described it as, “War by other means.” When the tine comes, is Shooting the B@stards, “Politics by other means?”

Interesting, to whom it is necessary to turn, for news. “Return” the farms … to non-farmers! And Russia and Oz are “racist” for allowing some Whites to survive? Says a lot about the general mood of that nation. And the silence of Western MSM says a lot about theirs.
