I gave no date for what I think we will slingshot back to as far as a society. There are prolly more libertarians who are prepared for the coming turmoil, so I expect they as a group will dominate the scene after SHTF. I am a libertarian at heart, and so are many of my online friends that I correspond with. But the nice thing about this, is one can have differences of opinion and still coexist! IMO you will likely get your “return to the 90’s” (give or take) with a side of 50’s thrown in… But I still prefer an enlightened future, where we put the well being of PEOPLE first. It can all work together, IMO
Here is a funny pic I found, kind of related to our conversation

There was nothing right wing about Nazi Germany. They were The National Socialist Party. They were not beaten by the liberal
left wing of the USA. You are parroting the current propaganda of the progressives, who are trying to falsely connect conservative values with the evil of their own past. The progressive movement grew out of the failures of communism and socialism. Combined those two systems of curuption account for around 70,000,000 murders.June 6, 2014 at 3:18 am #15824

There is a very subtle but important difference, in my mind, between “conservatives” and just “right wing.” I would never ever call the Nazi party conservative (I mean, besides the left wing, the largest opposition to the Nazis in Germany came from conservatives), but they are certainly right wing.
Then again, the Nazis may just simply defy explanation by modern American political labels. I suppose they partially inherited the legacy of the romantic nationalists.June 6, 2014 at 3:34 am #15829
I think the Nazis started out with a “right-wing ultra-nationalist stance” which was just a deception to get the country headed the way they wanted it to go. In the end, they were very similar to the commies, but sworn enemies. Such is the profile of EVIL. Totalitarianism will take any available path to power. Note the USA and how it is happening here: they are using the playbook of (crony) capitalism to enact a socialistic agenda. China is using a similar tactic in reverse, as in they are moving from a communistic ruled country to a (crony) capitalistic system where corporations, under the blessing of tyrannical governments, control the people. The U$A is using corporations to get the people under control.
JMHO, but it seems to describe the current events…

Sorry to diagree. Racisim, communism, socialism, fascism sre all products of left wing ideologies.June 6, 2014 at 6:16 am #15859
Not gonna argue semantics, politically we need to hit a middle ground and soon.
Too much conservatism is just as bad as too much liberalism (call it what you will).
Tsar, chill out, take a breath and realize that while many of your age group are “out there”, they are still at a point in life where they can learn.
There has been no golden era, its always been work to get ahead and succeed. The fifties were a period of both conflict and recovery. The post WWII years, Korea, everyone trying to rebuild and advance.
The red scare, communism, McCarthy, it wasn’t all Leave it to Beaver.
My grandfather and I spoke of this many times from the 80s through the early 2000s. I have the .22 rifle that fed the family post WWII for the lean years, and there were more than a few.
There are always those that grow up, it may take a shtf event for that to happen, but you may be surprised who rises to the occasion.
Many times its the person you’d least expect.
Those that don’t grow up, well that’s too bad for them.
Do not collect 200 dolars, do not pass go.
Focus on the future and what you can make of it, both with and without a shtf event.June 9, 2014 at 9:33 pm #16143
Good advice for a youngin, Tweva.
Hey Tsar, I, too, am a younger guy. I’m 25 and live in New York. Yes, our morals are crumbling, and our nation is falling apart, but you are NOT alone. In fact, the media hides our numbers all the time, to try to crush your hope, among other benefits to their agenda.
I can’t tell you what’s going to happen, how, and definitely not when. But being prepared means you don’t have to worry about it. Live dual lives. One is preparing for the brutal possibilities that are becoming more likely by the minute. The other is going about your daily routine. Get your degree… be smart about what kind though! Then find a good girl (make sure she’s not a lunatic progressive or otherwise morally bankrupt) and start thinking about a family and all that good stuff. That’s what I’ve been doing and it’s worked out pretty well so far.
Oh and though you should always stand for what’s right, don’t concern yourself with saving the nation single-handedly. They own the media, the banks… everything. It is impossible to stop the current direction of momentum. Only God can defeat them now. And, when it all collapses and goes to ****, that’s where we may have an opportunity to rebuild a world worth living in. So don’t be a hero… STAY ALIVE and have kids so that we have real men and women to make this planet worth living on and pleasing in God’s eyes.
That’s my advice from someone who feels your pain, being surrounded by immoral, brainwashed lunatics 24/7. It sucks, I know. But I’m in it with you and so are many others!June 9, 2014 at 10:19 pm #16149
Tsar – from an old “school of hard knocks” vice college military guy, the posters hit on two things I’d concentrate on if I were you.
One – meeting and hanging out with people of similar thoughts. Be careful, there may not be many out there and if you blatantly spout some of the musings on here you’ll be branded a crazy loon and possible gun nut…not somewhere you want to be. Keep it down low, but use engaging conversation. Just having a different view than the typical college professor lefty norm, you’ll attract those who also disagree. Once you find a few of those, then hone in on specifics. Use current events – “Man, what would we do if that hurricane hit here?” and you’ll see how far they’ve thought about and/or completed some preps. If they’re open, you can go further.
Two – learning from any and all sources including this site. You don’t have to go “survivalist” – just learn normal “camping” and such first. Outside and Backpacker mags are a good source if you don’t know that stuff and the nearby REI fits right in with a college town, but can provide much needed items (kept very small for backpacking) that can be stored in your dorm or small apartment and just appears your an “outdoorsy” guy. The library would also be a good source for free info.
Many items for your dorm for bug-in scenarios can be collected at local thrift shops for pennies on the dollar – oil lamps, cheap winter clothes, candles, etc. A cheap truck with a camper shell can provide a SHTF location for not only storage, but also a place to crash while on the road out. A sheet of plywood and a couple 2×4’s can make a platform for sleeping (for two) with storage underneath that stays out of sight and less likely for theft.
Hang in there – like undeRGRond said, we need clear thinkers like you to stick around. Remember, there are writings out there that show there may have been only 3% of the colonists actively fighting against the King of England’s forces. 3%! Let that sink in a bit.
If you want to shake up the college scene I’m sure that Fox News would take any video’s of professors spewing leftist garbage and denigrating anything of a differing view. You don’t have to take a bad grade – just submit the vid anonymously. The more of those close minded tenured we can get out, the better the education system will be.
Great advice from all the posters – hope this adda a bit to it. Proud of you for coming out and asking – too many don’t and learn the hard way. Don’t worry about the number of topics, it’s all good. We’re all glad to assist when asked or you wouldn’t have gotten this response.
Come back with any specific questions. K
Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.

Thanks to everyone who provided ideas, I know have a better picture of what I should do when I finally get to where I am going.
And thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts on society–I personally see little reason to see much good coming out of this society, but maybe if we are lucky, we might see a return to the relative political tolerance we had 15 or 20 or 30 years ago in America, and maybe people will stop being as crazy.
Moral support is sometimes more important than practical advice, in my opinion.
