I don’t buy the implication that the US military would mount such an unusual, costly (and likely, dangerous) tactic, as simply retaliation for the death, however tragic, of a single soldier. Even ISIS understands that we couldn’t afford such tit for tat tactics.
But it was effective in several ways, no doubt. And the vital interest we Citizens of the uSA have in Afghanistan is …? None of the “reasons” claimed by the people with authority to initiate and continue military actions there, ever rang true, nor made sense to me.
