China is starting to remind me a little like Japan economically. There was a time when the fear was that Japan was buying every company and building in the US that they could get their hands on.
Over stimulating their economy caused damage that is still being felt today. While certainly China is much larger, if their bubble pops, it is going to pop with a much larger bang.
Now that the Chinese people have gotten a small taste of freedom, they are going to be demanding more. There’s no telling what spark will set the people off. Being so vast, with so many ethnic regions, they are going to have a tough time controlling it all.August 22, 2015 at 10:23 pm #43293
China is easy.
They could have steamrolled the .gov back when Tienanmen square happened.
Back when they had the enthusiasm and emotions were running high.
Now, they’re just more sheep, in part because of what they’ve experienced and want.
TVs, cars, dangle that carrot out there, more controls in place that no one saw happening.
They have no rights, no arms, nothing but bodies.
Controlling it all, all they have to do is shut down shipments of food/medications/etc and they will cave just
as fast as anyone else.
Decades of communism aren’t thrown off instantly, look at russia as an example.
Look who’s in power now?August 23, 2015 at 12:52 am #43295
Capitalism isnt thrown off so easily either , especially when you throw religious persecution into the mix . Imperial Russia was essentially capitalist , and strongly Orthodox , the communists tried to crush both , with only limited success , they controlled the economy , but not really the minds of the people who kept up their religion through underground means . There are still elements that want communism back , but they are the minority , they are now very much a capitalist and orthodox nation once again , that is not going away any time soon . They have the best standard of living now , than they did under the Tsars or the Commies , the average person on the street that is . Putin is not Stalin , he cant just do anything he wants , and can , and has been told no . Sort of like here in the US , the President cant become a dictator , IF congress and Senate are doing their job . Sometimes it might look like they are a dictator , but if the leader has over an 80% approval rating , he can get things done fairly easily …….its just been a long time sense we had that kind of leader here . I agree with you on China , they have no qualms about snuffing millions of their own people if they felt they needed to .August 23, 2015 at 1:18 am #43297
Tolik: Great point. I had the opportunity to host several high ranking Chinese nuclear engineers for some meetings. I traveled with them several a week, and conversations over dinner were enlightening.
The head of the group told me he had been sent to work on a farm for reeducation. We got to talking about what we did for recreation. I told him that the first day of deer season in Pennsylvania was like a holiday. He laughed and told me that when he was on the farm, they loved to go goose hunting to supplement their food supply. I expressed shock that the were allowed to have guns. He laughed and said since everyone on the farm was either a scientist or engineer they were able to make their own shotguns.
The lesson for me was that you can not keep the human spirit down.August 23, 2015 at 3:41 pm #43308
I LOL about the reeducation camps! In Cuba they have them at all levels from kids to adults. The thing is that they will never control the mind and human spirit. Everyone that doesn’t agree with the system is put in these reeducation camps or schools and if it doesn’t work then they will put you in jail and call you a political prisoner.
That is how communism works. The progressives are really the socialist which is one step away from the communist. In this coming election we the people need to vote to end the rule of the progressives in the U. S.
We the people have only this election to change and go back (take back) this country. If we don’t then we will be on the road to communism which will bring a civil war. So we must vote on Nov 2016.
