An excellent book that relates the story of two German geologists who see the war clouds gathering in Europe and decide to make South West Africa there new home.

However at the out break of WWII the Smuts Government starts to confiscate firearms from German inhabitants etc.
IIRC they feared internent and then fled into the desert.

They book is an excellent story of what it takes to survive in a desert armed with a Luger pistol and old 9mm ammo!

Shooting Gemsbok/Oryx as well as SPringbuck they manage to survive for quite a few years.

Won’t spoil the ending for you though.

Funny but true account . During the war , they had a POW camp just outside of Phoenix AZ , a small group of Germans escaped , their plan was to hide out in the desert until the heat wore off ( searchers ) , then make their way to the coast . But , after a few days in the Arizona desert with 115 + temps and little water , scorpions , etc ……………they turned themselves back in .

    Hee Hee…

Our German “Africans” are tougher than the German ‘Americans”

    :-)

Never knew that Tolik. Thanks very much.
Do you perhaps have a link/book that I could read up on it?
