Slike, M, 42, NYC northwestern suburbs

Since 2001, World Trade Center, 4 blocks from ground zero

I believe that peak oil will lead to financial collapse, or vice versa, one leads to the other

Common sense realist, whatever I can do realistically within my means to do so. I tried the bugout thing to a country life; that nearly bankrupted me and I had no choice but to return to the city. These days I am more inclined to imagine that the city-states will prevail, perhaps as well as the small towns, but that living in rural areas will lead to demise of such people in those areas.

I’m interested to meet others in or around New York City.

    Stupid typos. IPhony.

Anywho, curious what others might imagine will be the tipping point. Too many things to count on two hands and two feet, of course. In my mind, peak oil will be the tipping point, though it may be misunderstood as a debt problem rather than the reality that it is, that we live in a finite world and that our natural resources – namely, oil – are finite….

    Welcome, SLIKE!

Too bad the rural life did not work for you, it’s much safer out there.
Your theory of city-states may be realized AFTER the SHTF, if the
control freaks are not deposed. But during the turmoil, the cities will
be on fire. I fear for anyone in the city without a huge support structure
and firepower to back it up, and it is currently illegal in NYC :(

But you are in the right place, so I hope you can enlighten us to some
things. I know you will learn much here, I know I have!

Hi Underground :) Thank you for the welcome.

I suppose everybody finds their place, in time. Perhaps a rural setting suits me, though not by myself. I have sufficient preps, going on 10+ years’ worth, as some of my pictures here might suggest, but I’d prefer to have others like-minded involved, people whom I trust and can share what I have.

I am about an hour, more or less, depending on mode of transport, out of the city. I work for a local utility. I’m interested in further establishing myself as a base , perhaps as a waypoint to meet for movement further afield.

Naturally, like others here, I tend to follow the news , both MSM and alternative sources, with an eagle eye and a fine-toothed comb. Can’t believe everything you hear, right? Even things seen (ergo TV) could be skewed for the ding dongs who will believe anything shoveled forth for common consumption. I read several blogs and follow CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, RT, and lots of other sources as well. Any one or all of them are skewed one direction or other.

I’m on several acres here. Lots of wood :) and ultimate privacy, except for the eyes in the sky. But everybody everwhere has that one to deal with , so I figure no better off , no worse off, in that regard. I’m growing paw-paws here . Hopefully they will mature quickly along with comfrey and gooseberries, etc. I might get a few ducks, maybe a few more chickens as well.

We get a lot of snow here. Not sure what to do about that, except to have 5+ years’ worth of firewood. I’d like to have 10+ years’ worth put away. I’m thinking about burying some, but the ground here is very rocky , mountain-like. Palisade stone, I think. It chips like flint.
