Found this opinion article on rt.com. Reactions, thoughts?
“No longer a beacon of freedom and democracy, the United States has fallen from it’s pedestal. As America has devolved into a violent and oppressive police state, new powers are rising to challenge this toxic world order: Iran and Russia.

What a load of tripe.
Russia and iran not oppressive police states?
Ask a gay person in either place.
Ask a person who values fre speech what happens when they criticize the .gov there.
No longer a beacon of freedom and democracy?
Then why are the russians and islamics trying to destroy us?
Because we aren’t what they are.
Why does everyone come here not russia and iran? Because they’re pits.
You don’t hear of russian immigrants going back.
You don’t hear of iranian immigrants going back.
You won’t hear of Toliks lady returning to russia.
Much like SA and zim, those who can get out, do.April 18, 2015 at 12:15 am #40273
I dont see the Russian Federation tying to destroy us , the Soviet Union …….yes , but that is long dead . We are actually more aggressive toward them than they are us . As far as the gay thing goes , I agree with them and I’m not the only one . Just Sayin .
Islam is out to destroy anything not islam , and even then they kill each other off as they are doing it . Its not total crap either , the generations before us were freer than we are , we , right now are freer than our children will be . Look at your generation growing up vs. your fathers vs your grandfathers generations ………….yes we are turning into a police state . And those that join the alphabet soups are part of the problem .April 18, 2015 at 1:00 am #40276
As fashionable as it is for Americans to bash the US and complain endlessly about our faults, Whirli is right, the rest of the world is still trying to come here for the freedoms and opportunities they can’t get back home. On the matter of losing freedoms, I agree in some regards given the excesses of regulators more and more trying to control how we live, but if you asked the majority of the population, those who aren’t healthy white heterosexual Christian men, they’d probably tell you they have more freedoms now than ever before. For example, I personally thought it was a good thing that my daughter could choose what career she wanted to pursue, something that just wasn’t an option for her grandmothers. A highly educated and successful black friend of mine, now deceased, thought it was a good thing he could go into any restaurant he wanted, versus when he was a young soldier in Virginia being told “we don’t serve…..”. An American soldier in uniform no less. Gay people like no longer having to fear being found out and fired simply because they’re gay. All in all, despite the current excesses of govt. regulation and heavy handedness, most Americans have more freedoms today than they did a generation or two ago. It may not be obvious to some of us because they’re freedoms we always had, but the Constitution was meant to apply to all of us, and now it does more than it ever did at any point in history. Nobody is going to feel more free going to Iran or Russia.April 18, 2015 at 3:59 am #40278
Say we dont have an economic collapse , on our present course , we have the strong possibility of going into one of two directions .
1. totalitarianism – complete loss of the US Constitution .
2. A complete Nanny State , worse than Canada or England , also with loss of the Constitution .
neither is desirable . There are too many in power that want to strip the American citizen of their rights to do most anything . While we seem to have more liberty than at any time in our history , it is in fact going in the opposite direction .
We are loosing more than what we had , albeit slowly , but it is happening . We need not confuse acceptance with actual liberties , because those are being stripped and diminished , either in the guise of protection or in the form of regulations . Then there are the governmental practices that are plainly illegal if we had the Constitution in full force . Regulations are nothing but a more palatable loss of liberty , its a mask for that loss that keeps us less aware that the loss has occurred . We have almost regulated ourselves out of the ability to compete in the world market . That also happens to our liberties , on the surface we have them ………when in practice we have actually lost them . Its dangerous . Protection has a price , and the price is the 1st , 2nd , 4th, and 6th Amendments . The loss will not make us any safer . On the subject of people not wanting to go back , that is very true , for now we still are the place to go . When compared to other countries , those that come here like our freedoms , and dont want to go back . That in modern day is in itself a danger , the reason is , those people are more willing to give up the freedoms of our ancestors , because they dont see any loss compared to where they came from , to them its an acceptable trade for the gain the government salesman has promised . You cant miss what you never had , and dont see that you have in fact lost anything , compared to what you left …..but you have lost , you just dont understand that you have . Those that have multi generational roots in this country will suffer for that lack of understanding of the others . The demographics of this country have drastically changed , if that is positive or negative in the long run remains to be seen , but it is a reason why the loss is allowed to happen , and could end up destroying the very thing that made the country desirable in the first place . Let me put it to you this way , when your at rock bottom , the only other direction to go is up , any industrial country would be an improvement to somebody from the 3rd world . Just sayin .April 18, 2015 at 6:23 am #40281
Don’t want to get too poetic here, but if the Light of Liberty dies here, the entire world, ruled as it is by banksters, oligarchs, and crazy tyrants, will conclude that self-government of the people by themselves and those they knowingly choose, has had its last chance, and must be rejected as a possibility. (Not that most of them haven’t concluded this already, but for a century or two, it looked like it just might work.)
The problem is, despite the benefits of Liberty (Sovereignty, Security, Prosperity ) not enough Citizens can be counted on to hold up their end of the social compact: They ignore the knowledge, and postpone the thinking, that it would take to make intelligent choices, preferring to devote the time such knowledge and thinking would take, to pursuing wealth, and/or entertaining themselves, letting their governance go by default. It’s the nature of the beast — they’re human after all.
So control of the nation goes, by bits and pieces, to those most adept at promising benefits paid by “someone else,” and those are controlled, in turn, by those who can get exclusive powers to issue the currency (in lieu of honest money.) Sic transit Gloria. Perhaps the founders, and their generation were the “moral people” to which Adams said the Republic was exclusively suited. And here and there, some such people still walk among us — just not enough. Armed belligerence won’t save them, in a world where hungry billions of souls can be recruited to staff a suppressive military, and shipped by the supertanker full, to wherever the rulers next want them.
Eventually, a world ruled by avaricious madmen and control freaks becomes so thoroughly impoverished, that it collapses, economically, intellectually, and spiritually, into a Dark Age, from which, there is nowhere to go but up. Will our descendants, centuries hence, eventually get another reset, a “do-over?” ¿Quién sabe?
