Putin is putting on a show.May 8, 2014 at 7:51 pm #12961
It looks like Putin is more nuts then what I thought. He is going to try something since he thinks Obama is soft.May 8, 2014 at 8:02 pm #12962
Yea, it looks like he is showing more “teeth”. It looks like balance is lost, and other side is somehow too quiet.May 9, 2014 at 12:02 am #13012
I would agree, Russia might be on the move a bit.May 9, 2014 at 12:06 am #13015
If you read this article you will see that Putin sees himself as a world leader comparable to Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin in historical importance. He understands that he must still make his mark to achive his goal.

1974, Yes he is looking nutty. We will see how long this will go. He may take all of Ukraine.May 9, 2014 at 2:33 am #13061
Freedom, I’d say it is a certainty he will.
“Conventional wisdom about the CSTO has said that in order for peace-keeping forces to deploy, which number anywhere from 4,000 to 20,000 in various configurations, a member would have to invite them into their country. Ukraine is not a member.
But there is some speculation that Russia — as Belarus has already done this evening — could invoke a version of the international mandate of “responsibility to protect” to rescue people they believe under attack, as they perceive them as “the”r own” as ethnic Russians or Russian-speakers. Moscow has paved the way for such a notion by characterizing the Kiev authorities as “illegitimate” and the government as “non-existent.” Furthermore, the Russian-backed separatists in towns in the south and east of Ukraine have appealed for help.”May 9, 2014 at 2:50 am #13066
Guys it’s just military training. We do it, they do it, every nation with any military force does it. The media is just feeding on this because of the whole Ukraine thing.
Does it mean Russia isn’t up to no good? No, but it’s just the timing that is making it a hot topic, for the most part.

They are doing things that they have not done in 20 years.May 11, 2014 at 2:18 am #13280
Putin knows what he is doing , crazy is not one of his problems …………..everything is calculated , and done for a reason . We do it all the time when we want to make a point , lest we forget ……………The US is NATO when you get down to it , the others contribution has never been nearly what ours has been in conflicts . I dont think NATO is really all that cohesive anymore , considering all the BS conflicts we have dragged others into in the middle east for such a long period of time . That and the fact that the Europeans have their own financial problems looming like we do . Not sure if push came to shove in a hard way , that the Europeans would be willing to risk the substantial consequences of war over Ukraine . Its one thing for us to go someplace else and fight , but its another to have war on your own soil . These drills are just part of the chess game , Putin is showing monkey man that he is not afraid of him . Its still early , and the longer it drags out , the stronger the Russian position will be , if they hang onto the Crimea , they have already won . Which seems likely that they will .
