Outstanding video. Everyone needs to watch this. You have to sign in to watch it, but it’s totally worth it…

Sorry if it brings up bad memories, Selco. They do go into detail about the Balkan War.

One thing I noticed about the run-up to the Balkan Civil War was that the former Yugoslavia was a cobbled together state under Tito. A “multicultural” state. Once things went wonky, different groups pulled away from the others and tribed up.

I fully expect this to happen in America. We are no longer one, homogenous people. We are a Tower of Babel, thanks to that piece of dog crap Ted Kennedy and the 1965 Immigration Reform Act. As much as people would like to think that folks would set aside their differences and work together, I’m thinking that’s pretty much a pipe dream. Folks who think that way are living in fantasy land. Look at the events of your average Black Friday shopping center… people go at it teeth and claws over some piece of useless Icrap right now, and we’re not even in a SHTF event! The “urban yoofs” in Chicago and elsewhere shoot each other deader’n Julius Caesar because they carry a different color snot rag or live across the train tracks… Economic Ragnarök hits, you think it won’t be full-blown open warfare, Yugo-style?

Malgus, it will be a war out there. People will shot you for just looking at them in a SHTF. I know I live in the city. The problems will go to farm land too! These gangs will finish in the cities and when they see that there is not much left they will head to the farms.

    Free,

I hear ya brother. Doing my best to gather our community together for mutual defense. Going to follow the steps in “A Failure of Civility” and try to get a meeting going down at the local church… it’s a central location for all of us in our little area, but I’ll still include a map. Going to print off fliers and put them in folk’s mailboxes after I get the church on board in allowing me to use their hall…

One thing we farmers got is heavy equipment – bulldozers, dump trucks, tractors, back-hoes, ground saws, ground augers, chainsaws, stocks of fuel, extra barbed wire and razor wire, etc… building defensive works wouldn’t be easy, but it would be doable. Defense in depth and a means to communicate with each other over the longish distances we’re talking about, plus every booby trap and dirty trick I can think of.

Yes, it was multicultural society, in some things similar to US, in other very similar to Soviet union. Maybe something between. Lot of different nations and religions, with long history of conflicts between them, but unite together under the socialistic system.

Then came collapse of state because economic reasons, politic reasons (change from socialistic to “democratic” system) and somehow someone pulled all differences between different nations and religions and turned it against each other.
Then hate came, and people from all sides just fueled hate etc.
It is very short and simplified explanation, but it is true. Yes there are some similarities.

Wow! Going to forward it to a number of people tonight. Many will ignore, but if even one more person begins to prep, it will be worth it.

For the farmers, be sure you have lots of open space outside of your defenses.  Fall trees or use ditches to stop vehicle traffic, make the pos’s get out and walk.  Ideally you want as big of a clearing between the vehicle obstacles and the personnel stuff.  the reason for that big open field is so all the deer rifles can “thin” the herd.  A text book situation would give you at least 500 yards/meters of cleared space (no stumps, no ditches and as flat as you can make it) then the wire.  With your positions behind it.

osagemarine, the city gangs would not know any better and would just walk in and the farmers can just hunt them down with a clear shot. Open space and some traps for the night.

Osagemarine- you are right! I was never in the military so I don’t have ‘tactical’ training or whatever. But I have been building relationships in our little, tiny village of other farmers/landholders and gotten at least some basic agreement that we need a plan – someone needs to have a plan around here – ‘just in case’.

We have marked the trees along the two different routes into the area that will need to be felled with round reflectors to be quickly located again. We’ve started practicing with signal flags with others even higher elevation to ‘know stuff’ we ourselves may not be able to see. A small, but critical bridge can be disabled by a bulldozer on one of our landowners properties. Most of us have already taken out gates that we used to use to move cattle that open to the road – a pain – but we use our farm lanes now because of cattle thefts some have experienced.

We go out once a month and our clearing a trail system off the road we can ride/patrol a perimeter around the village/our properties, and yes, dropping select trees (we can jump on horseback). Next is building tree stands at a few key points where we can watch important sections of road. We’re ‘officially’ promoting a community trail riding club dontcha know!

tweva, That is great that you are working on the relationships and getting some agreements of some plans. You are a head of the game.
