    flatlander, I don’t see myself giving any homes to anybody but it is an interesting issue to discuss. It is something I hadn’t thought about before and having though about it more, it isn’t just a 2nd home issue. In any SHTF scenario at the level where the word depopulation comes into play, there would be lots of abandoned properties. At the same time, communities, especially rural communities, could find themselves with more residents than they had pre-SHTF. This would be a combination of urban friends and relatives seeking shelter and other refugees having made it there. I can’t speak for other parts of the country but I would hope that small town New England would look for consensus in the same manner that we’ve done for nearly 400 years, which is let Town Meeting decide how to handle it. Everyone has their say and the community accepts the outcome as fair.
