I have three AKs , I have them for several reasons , but one thing that I have never liked are the Russian design sights , that goes for almost all weapons they designed , not just the AK . I was digging through the internet , and came across a shooters blog , apparently , a lot of people have the same complaint . Their solution was to remove the front sight post , and replace it with one of KNS’s new ring sight post . They reported better results when they did that . I looked up KNS , and ordered three of them . When I received them , they were black , well , thats all good and well , except for the fact that they are made of brass , and when you use the front sight tool to screw them in ………….the black wears off in places , I didnt like that . Once in place , that will no longer be an issue . I liked the new sight right away , and for my eyes , it was indeed a big improvement , target acquisition was much faster and easier . It takes a little fussing around to sight it in , but once done , is a big improvement over the standard post sight . They make them for AR’s as well .

Accuracy improvements yes.
Low light work? No thanks.
Had one on a match AR for a while.
Astigmatism correction in glasses can make these awful to use.
But at night the wires are gone and the ring is even harder to use than a good post sight.September 8, 2014 at 4:15 am #24396
THats a good point , I think I can modify it a bit with redneck engineering , have to test that , thanks for the heads up .September 8, 2014 at 12:12 pm #24401
I think replacing the rear sight is a better solution. There are several makers of rear sight rails that allow optics. I put the Primary arms mount on my AK and it has made it into a pretty accurate shooter. Plus as Whirly mentioned you can use a low light optic.

If you really want to stick with Iron sights I would try mixing a MEPROLIGHT tritium illuminated front post with a Peep sight on the rear.
