My place of work is next door to my home, also I live right outside a small town, so when I do go “out of town” it would probably be a long trek to walk home in the event of civil unrest, EMP, etc. My EDC bag also doubles as a “Get Home” bag and I do bring it with me both to work as well as any time I leave my home. I use a small backpack like a book bag.
My EDC Bag can vary depending on where I’m going, time of year, length of stay, but usually goes as follows:- Glock 26 w/ Belt Holster & Belt Pouch for 2 extra mags
- Laptop w/ charger
- Extra charger for cellphone
- Small solar charger w/ battery backup
- Bottle of water, life straw water filter.
- 4 Granola Bars
- Cigarette lighter
- Small Flashlight w/ rechargeable CR123 batteries
- Multi tool
- Pocket knife
- Belt knife
- Small knife sharpener
- Silcock key
- Compass
- Small First Aid Kit w/ Bandages, Allergy Meds, Ibuprofen, Aspirin
- Extra tee shirt, hat (when you might need to protect from the sun or change appearance for what ever reason)

you have a lighter but no way to start a fire easily should add a candle or some wax soaked dryer lint with cotton wicks saves your lighter fuel and easier to keep lit when wet.
A small mylar emergency blanket is a definite add
should have sock and blister pads in bag as you will only go as far as your feet let you. can smell like open sewer and live but can walk a mile with blistered feet from wet socks.
For nicety too add some bug repellant if not allergic to peanuts some peanut butter super dense food group (calorie) with long shelf life and no refrigeration. plus works for snare bait.
and a roll of duct tape…is there nothing this stuff cant do… from an old Canadian show red green If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

My EDC has quite some comfort stuff… given I live in South East Asia this can be even organic coconut oil because I might stop by a massage
