    Used to work for a welding shop.

    The boss had a 3/8″ plate set up as a target backer.

    My .220 Swift and soft points punched it easily as did my .45-70 and 400gr cast lead bullets.

    Until we start talking about hardened armor plate, you’re only stopping pistol and shotgun ammo.

    If it’s not hardened steel; yep, not much against rifles.

    Better than nothing I suppose, if used on a vehicle.

    If you can’t use hardened steel, multiple layers are helpful.
    Preventing spalling and the bullet boring through is what we are trying to prevent.
