I would suggest storing a gallon or two of 190 proof grain alcohol (US brand names Everclear, Golden Grain, Gem) as both a barter item and a medical supply. Grain alcohol can be consumed in other beverages, or mixed with fruit to create ersatz “brandy”. It is also helpful for making tinctures of medicinal plants and other homemade remedies. My ancestors in Appalachia used to make cough syrups using moonshine (100-120 proof homemade alcohol) , herbs like peppermint and wintergreen, and sweeteners like honey, molasses, or cane syrup.
