I know that we called the Sherman tank – any incarnation of it – a “Zippo” tank, being as it was rather cheaply made and sparked up pretty good when hit by just about anything. Just like a zippo lighter. That’s what we get for using gasoline.

The Herms used diesel mostly. You could shoot holes through their tanks (I kid – few things could make holes in a Tiger, Panther or King Tiger), and they’d keep going. Diesel no ‘asplodey…
