I would add this to the discussion . There was a time in our history , where we were more of a neutral power , and the President of the United States was viewed as an impartial entity , The President was viewed by many foreign powers as a man they could trust to understand the views of BOTH sides of conflict , and to propose and mediate impartially a resolution to conflicts . Good example was Teddy Roosevelt being called on to end the Russo Japanese war . Not so anymore , most of the time , our only solution is to invade or drop troops into some crap hole to get shot at , only to pull out without accomplishing much of anything , we are far too involved in the wrong way . Pretty damn sad , when Putin was called in to try to negotiate a cease fire in the early stages instead of the US . Thats the problem , we no longer see , or even try to see the point of view of BOTH sides , we just choose one for politics and thats it , and in the case of Ukraine , both sides DO have very legitimate points of view . Asian Communists , and middle eastern religious nuts are a different matter , there is no negotiating with them , but this is a different matter . We are not even trying . Just Sayin . From what is going on , the biggest problem in this case is not Russia , its not the US , its not the Novorussians , its the Ukrainian president . You have an egomaniac that is not fit for leadership perpetuating a war that should have been over by now . He should of put a stop to what was going on early on , but he didnt . It would be like an ultra national party taking over , and deciding that the large population of Mexicans in the country were no longer welcome , then persecuting them with violence , and when the Mexicans decide to fight back , getting angry about it . Then not understanding why you now have a very serious problem on your hands , when it didnt need to be that way in the first place .
