lonewolf, it is a huge slap in the face to the French. I would go further and suggest that he could have ensured a substantial US presence even if so many other world leaders weren’t going there. It doesn’t seem he learned anything after the major snub to the Brits when he didn’t send a high level delegation to Maggie Thatcher’s funeral. At the time it was assumed it was because he didn’t agree with Maggie’s politics. For me that was confirmed when shortly after he personally went to Nelson Mandela’s funeral, a man whose politics he did agree with. The way I see it, Nelson Mandela never did anything for the US whereas Maggie Thatcher stood side by side with Reagan in staring down the Soviets.
