Freedom – thanks for the posting and for all who have contributed. My personal thoughts are we should take the fight to them instead of waiting for them to come here. These guys are far from goat herders as was OBL. We played the isolationist part before Pearl Harbor and it cost us big time by letting Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany get so strong. Had things played out a bit differently in a couple key areas, we might not be speaking English. I think that this has contributed to our policy of pre-emptive actions – we don’t want to get caught like that again.
On the other side of the coin Malgus has some good points. We do get involved in way too many minor countries squabblings and we give away WAY too much cash to governments that don’t like us and many that hate us. In a lot of cases I agree – who cares? We can’t afford to intervene in every two-bit dictator’s actions, so why do it? When it gets to a certain level of human atrocity, I agree with some intervention along with other partner countries – but that should all be decided out in the open with the public’s scrutiny as it’s our money and only to the extent of the minimal actions to assist. BTW, I like the idea of having politician’s kids involved – won’t happen; it’s now a badge of honor to dodge the draft and badmouth the military for affluent offspring.
Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.
